  • MANICURES: Contact a local Cosmetology School and ask if they would like to practice giving manicures to your girls.
  • MODEST FASHION SHOW: Have a fashion show. Discuss modest and flattering clothing.
  • DRUG EDUCATION: Go to the local police station and have an officer talk to them about drugs.
  • GROOMING KIT: Include deodorant,comb,toothbrush,lotion,shampoo,washcloth,etc... Anything that you can find on sale. (I just picked things up when I found them on sale for a really great price, after a couple of months we had a great kit that cost hardly anything.) We talked about the importance of staying clean.
  • HAIR BRAIDING: Check out a book from the Library about"Hair Braiding". Show the girls all of the ways to braid. Let the girls braid each others hair. Talk about the importance of keeping hair clean and combed.
  • HAIR BOWS: Learn how to make hair bows. Keep them or give them to the younger girls in your primary or neighborhood.
  • MODESTY POSTERS: We made posters about modesty and immodesty. We had several magazines and clothing ads. We let the girls go through them and cut out modest and immodest clothing. Then had them glue them onto poster board. Modest on one side and immodest on the other. Then they could compare and talk about modesty and why it is important.
  • MODEST PAPER DOLLS: We made paper dolls and modest clothes for the girls to color and cut out, and discussed the importance of dressing modestly.
  • DENTAL CARE: Check with your Dentist to see if he will donate toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and the little red pills that show where plaque is on your teeth.(You will be surprised how many Dentists will do this if you explain what it is for.) Have the children chew the pills and look in the mirror. Everywhere that there is red, means they need to brush better. (Drinking red Kool-aid can do the same thing) Talk about oral health and give them the kits with the toothbrushes etc...
  • MODEST WEDDING GOWNS: Talk about the importance of Temple Marriage and the goal of the Celestial Kingdom. Bring wedding magazines and look at the wedding gowns and show the girls which dresses are appropriate for the Temple. Have the girls draw a picture of the dress that they would like to wear on their wedding day in the temple.
  • SKIN CARE: I had a local beauty representative (Mary Kay type person) come and give the girls facials. They all loved it, plus it taught them the importance of taking care of your skin while you are young, to keep you looking young and to prevent pimples (something they begin to worry about at their age).
  • MODEST CLOTHING HUNT: Go on a field trip to a clothing store. Look for modest clothing. Try to find shorts that are knee length, shirts that are not sleeveless, dresses that are long enough, one piece modest swimming suits. Talk about wearing clothes that they will be able to wear after they go to the temple and the importance of living by those same standards now. You could even talk to the buyer of the store and express your desire for them to stalk more modest clothing. You could write to several stores to ask for the type of clothing that you would like to see on the racks. If the stores know what you want they will buy them.
  • POSTURE LESSON: Learn about the importance of good posture. Learn how to sit, stand and walk have the girls try doing these things with bad posture and good posture. Learn how it makes you look and feel better and helps breathing and circulation and confidence.
  • FOOD PYRAMID: Get some masking tape and make a large food pyramid on the floor. Have the girls cut out pictures of food from magazines and place them in the correct place on the pyramid. Read or talk about the Word of Wisdom and explain that 90% of their diet should come from healthy foods and 10% from snack type foods. You could even give them a little food journal and have them keep track of what they eat for a week either before or after the lesson. Challenge them to try to eat healthy for one week or even one day.
  • MODESTY COLLAGE: We did a "Modesty Collage". The girls went through catalogs and magazines and cut out pictures of modest clothing. They pasted them to a sheet of paper and then we three-hole punched it and they put it in their binders. I actually saw a few of them looking at them again the other day at another activity. They especially got excited about finding modest wedding gowns. My partner brought her wedding gown in and we talked about the importance of getting married in the temple and the importance of being modest.
  • HOMEMADE FACIALS: We made home-made facials from recipes found on pioneerthinking.com. The girls paired up and smeared each others faces. While we were letting the facials set, we clipped and filed our nails and talked about the importance of good grooming. The girls had a blast putting stuff like strawberries and avocados all over each other's faces!
  • HOMEMADE LIP GLOSS: 1 t. coconut oil (buy at health food stores); 1 t. petroleum jelly; 1 melting candy (pink makes a nice color); 1/4 t. grated paraffin wax; Combine all ingredients in a sandwich bag. Seal the bag and soak in hot tap water until melted (about 3 minutes). Squeeze the melted ingredients together until well mixed. Cut the corner of the bag off and pour into a small container. Refrigerate for 15 minutes or until set up. This is really easy and turns out great. I found lip gloss containers at a soap making store.
  • HAIR STYLIST: Invite a hair stylist to show the girls how to blow dry their hair and do some simple cute styles. Let them practice on themselves and others to learn what to do.
  • PEER PRESSURE ROLL PLAYING GAME—have a box full of different scenarios printed on slips of paper and place them in a basket. (Create situations that the children might encounter that have to do with drugs, alcohol, stealing, cheating, wearing immodest clothing, smoking, etc…) Teach the girls ways to get out of any difficult situation using humor, absolute refusal, pre-planned excuses, cleverly changing the subject by suggesting another activity, by reminding the group that they really don't want to do this thing, by calling home to have someone come pick you up, etc… Choose one girl to be the person who will refuse to go along with the rest of the crowd. (Let each girl have a turn to be the one to NOT go along with the crowd)Draw a scenario out of the basket and do the roll play. After each roll play, discuss what she said and what she could have done differently. These skills could be one of the most important things that you can teach these girls.
  • Modesty---We are having a Newspaper Fashion Show. The girls will be divided into groups of 4. Each group will have 3 designers and 1 model. The objective is to design a modest outfit using only tape and newspapers. Each group will have a different theme (ie. prom dress, beach wear, etc). When they are done designing and creating their outfits, they will fashion them and explain why they feel it is modest. We've done this before with the Young Women and it's a HOOT! You will be surprised with the creativity of these girls! Lori W. Colorado
  •  have the girls invent their own modest wedding dress out of napkins and any materials you have around your house. time the girls and then play some pretty music and let the girls walk in the room and model. after the model show discuss the importance of temple marriage and why it is important to be modest
